2017 Craigmeur Family Friendly Fall Bike Ride

Posted by Debbie McNeley on November 2nd, 2017

A dozen of us began our ride at historic New Paltz, mile marker 9 on the north leg of the 23 mile Wallkill Valley Rail Trail. We headed north 7 miles to the scenic Rosendale Trestle for pictures.  In the 18th century Rosendale was a center for mining and smelting gypsum which is used in plaster, chalk and drywall.  Along our bike bath we visited the caves where it was mined and the cement furnaces that were built into the rock walls surrounding this town.

After we made our way back we drove 10 minutes to the Tuthilltown Distillery where we enjoyed a tour and tasting of delicious whiskey, bourbon, vodka, gin and liqueurs. We also had lunch there. Eight of us still had enough juice (literally) to continue taking in more fall foliage so we headed west to the famous Sam’s Point lookout.  After hiking about 3/4 mile uphill we delighted in a spectacular fall sunset while snacking on sumptuous pumpkin bread that Lisa Hibbs had baked.

A great fall day had by all.

12th ANNUAL CAMPING/RAFTING TRIP UPDATE

Posted by Debbie McNeley on July 23rd, 2017

Another successful camping/rafting trip to add to our memories! We had over 80 people come for the fun.  The rain held off until everybody’s camp was set up and everybody had their dinner.  It was still a fun night of visiting with everybody and playing games.  The weather was excellent from then on.  After a continental breakfast, it was off to the Delaware River. The rafting trip was filled with fun, laughter, water fights, nature watching and some were even lucky enough to catch a fish or two!  After a delicious dinner, we all danced the night away to the great music provided by “Fly by Night”.  Chinese lanterns were sent afloat and the firework show was spectacular!!  After staying up until the wee hours of the morning in front of the beautiful fire, we were treated to a big breakfast before puling up camp and returning home.  A big thank you to everyone for all of your help in making this a great trip!
