Rain clouds loomed over Skylands Park as the start of the Skyhawks vs Quebec baseball game was about to begin. Armed with rain gear, hot dogs, and beers, we all enjoyed the game as Larry worked his magic to hold off the impending weather. This was the night of freebees. We all received a free soft pack cooler as we entered the park. Although free t-shirts were occasionally tossed into the crowds inbetween innings, none of us were quick enough to catch one. The only big winner of the night from our group was Isabella, aged 2, who won a baby crawl contest. She walked away with 2 coupons for Rockaway Bedding. Congratulations Isabella! Things didn’t really get exciting until the last few innings, but unfortunately, the Skyhawks couldn’t pull it off losing to Quebec 4 to 3. Not willing to call it a night, 10 of us went over to the Chatterbox for an after game snack.

The event was the best in a couple of years. The weather was 100 percent cooperative. We had a record attendance of over 130 people. Food was abundant and plentiful. A record 7 bushels of clams were served. Among the menu items were ribs, steaks, burgers, hot dogs, salads, sausages and peppers and many different deserts, all home made by our members.
Some people participated in a volleyball game. Liliana used her secret tactic to distract the other team. During the games it was discovered that there were ringers who play volleyball on a regular basis.
And who do think the won the 50/50 raffle? Our treasurer suggested before the drawing that there be four separate drawings. However the club decided to have only one drawing. The drawing prize was $132.00 Much to the shock of all, our Treasurer, Mike Rachmiel won the drawing. Upon winning, Mike refused to carry out his suggestion to have four drawings.
