January 31, 2006 – Two Places to Go

Posted by Larry Ticotin, Webmaster on January 29th, 2007

Calling all members.  The snow season is here in force so come out and give your club support by racing this Wednesday the slalom at Mountain Creek South. We need bodies and don’t care how good you are. The only requirement is that you want to have fun. Afterwards join us at Moghuls Bar for food and refreshments. Give yourself  time for the race that starts at 7:30 pm by arriving before 7:00 pm. This will give you adequate time to sign up and check out the race course.

If you are not up to skiing please join the club for a general meeting at 8 pm at the Exchange, Rockaway, NJ. There will also be a Club Board Meeting starting at 7 pm.

Race conditions were somewhat challenging, although not the worse. The snow was hard packed with a little bit of ice. Racers enjoyed a delicious pasta dinner followed by desert that was covered by the club. Afterwards we enjoyed refreshments while discussing the race results.

Ski Sharpening and Waxing

Posted by Larry Ticotin, Webmaster on January 12th, 2007

Wednesday, January 10, 2007, Paul Kattermann, gave the club an informative clinic on sharpening, waxing and maintaining skis. Paul brought his vast supply of equipment to demonstrate techniques to optimize ski performance. He showed his various files and showed how to use them properly. He also discussed when a ski has a convex shape or other undesirable conditions it may be easier to have the ski stone grinded by a professional ski shop. Paul also mentioned that it is good idea to crank down the din setting (make note of the setting before preceding) on the ski binding at the end of the season to relieve spring pressure. Most importantly, in the beginning of the season verify that your bindings release.

Note: In the near future the club will have a clinic on bicycles from a local bike shop.

The NJSC Wednesday night race league update

Posted by Larry Ticotin, Webmaster on January 11th, 2007

Mountain Creek intends to open South on Saturday (Jan 20th) for race training only as defined below until they can blow more snow in other areas of South following Vernon.

The Race Dept issued the following statement earlier this afternoon:

“We would like to this opportunity to thank everyone for their continued support and patience. With the upcoming weather permitting us to start making snow again Mountain Creek has committed to opening the RACE HILL although their primary focus will be to get Vernon up and in operation. Because of the man hours involved, at this time the Race Hill only will be operational at South. In order to provide our athletes with the best possible terrain we will be opening the hill to racers, coaches and officials only. Parents wishing to view the races must hike to the finish area. Parents wishing to ski are able to do so at Vernon. Harvest Market and Moguls will be open during our operating hours with a limited menu. Rentals and ski school will be operating at Vernon only.“

Revised Race Schedule

Jan 24 – GS

Jan 31 – Slalom

Feb 7 – Super G

Feb 14 – Slalom (while I am away)

Feb 21 – GS

Feb 28 – Slalom or dual slalom

The Wednesday night race league will not start until Jan. 24 weather issues and we will know about Hidden Valley Jan. 18th race at latest by Jan.16.

If you are planning to race in State Race Feb. 3 please let know by Monday.
