Bike New York Recap 2007

This years Bike New York on Sunday, May 6, 2007 turnout was overwhelming; at lease 2 dozen Craigmeur members and friends from as far away as Colorado (and 32,000 of our fellow bikers) rode. Less a few minor mechanical challenges, chains, flats, and shifters not working that were fixed along the way. The ferry ride to Manhattan proved to be very chilly – next year we will need to make a note to get space inside rather than out. The 6am traditional beer still was refreshing. Once we were off the boat the weather warmed up and turned into a perfect day. The tailgate party afterwards surpassed prior years. There was everything from chips, dip, salads, burgers, and even London broil! And, more beer. Everyone in attendance contributed – thanks. Contrary to popular belief Glenn does ride the entire 45 miles including several serious hills (in New York these are bridges). I spotted him several times along the way. Two of the times were just before and after the Verrazano Narrows bridge! Great ride – see you next year.

End of Season Party

Posted by Maryanne on May 4th, 2007

The end of the ski season is bittersweet. The open source compilation slide show of the season made the 2007 winter seem so long ago. Viewing everyone smiling, being silly, almost childlike, makes us remember what skiing is all about: play. Where else can we go into our recent memory banks to find so much frolic? I think the slide show said it all. Seeing one another again, reliving the winter’s adventures, kissing cheeks, and sharing plans for the spring and summer season was the official congratulation to season well done.

I’d like to welcome new board members and officially thank outgoing ones for their outstanding dedication. A warm welcome to new club members and heartfelt re-embrace to renewing members. Here’s to continued success for the only ski club in New Jersey that has a waiting list!

I couldn’t resist this poem for beginners and experts alike. It really sums it up for all of us who carry around the child within and aren’t afraid of life’s challenges.
Skiing

I’m very good at skiing.
I have a kind of knack
For I can do it frontways
And also on my back.
And when I reach the bottom
I give a sudden flop
And dig myself in sideways
And that’s the way I stop.
