Here we are on the crest of the 2007-2008 ski season.  Vermont and New Hampshire ski areas are open and everyone’s thoughts are turning to the slopes.  Get out there & ski !!

When patronizing retailers / resorts / restaurants in ski country or anywhere else, remember to show your Club membership card with the NJSC member sticker to inquire about discounts and deals.  Also check the new NJSC web site for additional point of sale discounts under the Discount Programs – Membership Direct heading.

Ski Skills Tune Up Day – Saturday December 01, 2006 @ Windham Mtn.

NJSC Discount Vouchers will be available thru Chris Budd at any Craigmeur meeting.  Sign ups began October 03 & will continue through the winter.  Payments will be taken with sign-ups.  Sign-up cutoff / voucher delivery dates as follows:

cut-off 11/21/2007 – delivery December 12, 2007
cut-off 12/19/2007 – delivery January 16, 2008
cut-off 1/30/2008 – delivery February 13, 2008
 

Membership Direct offers point of sale discounts directly on the mountian.  Once the info has been up-dated on the NJSC web site, you will be able to print a list of resorts offering discounts.  In the meantime, try the following web sites for additional discounts:

Ski Bums of NJ – the ONLY weekly Wednesday ski bus to Hunter all winter long.  Print the flyer for additional details.  If you can get a group of 8-15 people, you can participate at the Ski Bums of NJ member rate.  Details as per the flyer.   OOPPS!!  Lost the flyer, go to Ski Bums of Nj web site for more info.

November 14, 2007, Bill visited us at The Exchange Restaurant, Rockaway during our club meeting. Bill spoke about the importance of having your ski boots properly aligned. Skiing starts from the ski up. Poor boot alignment can cause a skier to compensate with bad skiing technique. Afterward Bill looked at several members boots and made alignment recommendations.

During the evening several ski related prizes supplied by the Exchange Restaurant were given out to members. The club plans to have special speakers every third meeting of the month. These speakers have important and relative information. These are don’t miss meetings!

This past Wednesday we had our Ski Season Kick-off Party! What an Event! The place was packed to capacity with new & old members, all to see if the Craigmeur greatest Video lived up to its hype!

Roy Spierer our VP was our MC for the night, as our President was out town. The night started with introductions of the vendors and Bill Jones the editor from Snow East magazine speaking to the members for a few minutes. We were then treated to a fabulous Video of our past year events, complied from numerous members’ videos & pictures, with the addition of music and animation, the Video was by produced by Larry Ticotin Studios. The Video featured past events from open house weekend, to the fall bike trip, to the rafting trip, to the x-mas party, to the club race, to the spring bike trip, to the Pres .lake party and the clam bake. The overall film production was excellent, from the music, to Bart Simpson pop-ups, to making a diehard Yankee fan into a Red Sox fan.

Thank again to Larry & Sue from Larry Ticotin Studios for all there hard work & efforts on the Video. Also who new, you could travel to Vt. and have not finished the entire Video and yes the Video lived up to its hype!

Thanks to our Bar tender Sunny who filled in for Lorraine and kept every body’s glasses filled during the event.

A fun night was had by all 63 people (13 more than last year). Our 2nd annual bowling night was held at Rockaway Lanes on Saturday November 3rd and was a great success. Larry Ticotin organized a fun filled evening of bowling with beginners and pros alike. The children “glowed” with the light stick lanyards supplied by Diane Bogert, Thanks Diane. The bowling scores were looking good until the lights dimmed and Laser Bowling started. From that point on we didn’t even know if we were using the right balls. Oh well, better luck next year. Tune in to this same site in a few days to see the photos of this great event. Roy

One of the most beautiful hikes this side of the Mississippi is right here in New Paltz, New York. Meet at the Gatehouse at the Mohonk preserve at 9:00 am. The hike is a few miles round trip, including an incredible incline traversing in and around huge rocks and up long skinny ladders. It’s a great hike for adults and kids over 6 years of age. The cost is $21 and worth every penny. Please see me at the Ski Kick Off at the Exchange on November 7th that starts at 7:30pm, for more information and to arrange your carpool. Take NYS Thruway to Exit 18, New Paltz. After leaving the NYS Thruway at Exit 18, turn left at the traffic light onto Route 299/Main Street. Follow Main Street through New Paltz.
Immediately after crossing the bridge over the Wallkill River, turn right (follow “MOHONK” sign). After 1/4 mile bear left at the fork and follow Mountain Rest Road and Mohonk signs to the Gatehouse. (NOTE: The Mohonk Gatehouse is located about six miles west of the Thruway Exit.)
