NYC Two Bridge Ride – October 6th

Posted by Maryanne on September 22nd, 2012

The NYC Two Bridges ride is officially scheduled for October 6th (weather is looking GOOD). We meet at 9:30 am at the Port Imperial Ferry Terminal in Weehawkin, NJ. From there we will take the ferry to Manhattan and ride down the West Side, then across the island, and finally over the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges. This is definitely a bring-your-camera day. The views from the ferry and bridges are spectacular. Lunch will be by popular demand, most likely in either Little Italy or The Meatpacking District. The entire ride will be less than 15 miles – easy, all flat. The hard part of this ride is that it is in a city, travelling on bike paths and one needs to be alert.
For more information contact Maryanne Mecca, the trip organizer. Can’t wait to see you there!

The 2012 Craigmeur Ski Club Clam Bake a Great Success

Posted by Maryanne on September 7th, 2012

The 2012 Clam Bake was loads of fun and a huge success! During the planning stage of this even I just couldn’t understand how so many people, so much prep, so many beverages, and so much food could come together in one day. Well it did! The clams (and everything else that came from the grill area) were outstanding. The side dishes gourmet. And the cupcake wars a blast. A big thank you to everyone who made this day great – those who planned, those who prepped, those who cooked, those who competed in the food competitions, and those who came to EAT! I’m sure we all have great memories and stories to tell.
If you took pictures (and I know that many of you did) please bring them to the meeting (on disc) Wednesday. We’d like to get them posted here on the website for all to see.
Thanks!
Maryanne

The official results of the competitions are below, thanks to organizer and judge extraordinaire, Amy:

1st place non-dessert:  Ken Fox – Chicken Veggie Crepes

2nd place non-dessert: Rob Mcdonald – Roasted Corn Avocado Salad

Baking Winner: Maryanne Mecca – Mt. Cupcake Cake

1st place Cupcake Warriors: Hannah Smith – Cookie Monster Cupcakes

2nd place Cupcake Warriors: Diane Stone – Irish Car Bomb Cupcakes

Our official message from Amy:

Due to the incredible success of yesterday’s clambake, we have exciting news! Cupcake Warriors was so well received and voting was so, incredibly, extremely close, we have decided to run the competition again next year.  It really was anyone’s game.  All entries were within a few votes of each other, so consider a second shot, especially since each entry was so well liked and because there is a good chance we won’t be running the cupcake competition 3 years in a row.

The deal was not much different with the non-dessert competition. The numbers were all extremely close.  We even had a four-way tie for third, so everyone had a chance right up to the final count.

Tallying the votes is one of the rewards of running this portion of the event.  So start looking for recipes for next year so you are ready to dazzle us all with your culinary expertise.

Counting the votes was such a suspenseful, nail-biting experience this year, I just had share.  Thanks for making my day great! – Amy
