Schoarie Cave trip June 28-30, 2013

Posted by Mike Rachmiel on June 11th, 2013

This is a weekend trip or a day trip if you prefer.

Camping is available at the Schoarie field house right next to Schoarie Cave.

I will be going up Friday evening and cave trips will be available on Saturday and Sunday.

Do not wear your cave clothes in the car. There are changing areas at the cave parking lots. Make sure you bring an empty garbage bag for your dirty cave clothes for the ride home.

Also make sure that you bring separate shoes for caving.

This is what you should bring to wear in the cave:

Poly pro bottom and top

Sweatshirt or jacket

Gloves – gardening gloves, leather gloves, rubber gloves

Hiking socks –  Synthetic not cotton

Sweatpants or loose fitting pants preferably not cotton

Old hiking boots or work boots are better than sneakers.

Very important- knee pads and elbow pads.  You will do some crawling.

You may choose to bring a fanny pack or a small day pack in the cave. You should bring a small bottle of water, some snacks and a camera.

You may also want to bring sandwiches or other food.

I will be carrying a cave pack with extra batteries and extra plastic bags for warmth if needed (only for an emergency).

If you have any questions you can contact me by telephone

2013 – Camping, Rafting trip

Posted by Craig DeSantis on June 1st, 2013

PLEASE COME BACK TO VIEW UPCOMING RECAP

Its time again! Time to put the eighth annual camping / rafting trip onto the summer calendar!

CampP3

When: July 12, 13, and 14th 2013

Where: Landers river trips, Narrowsburg, NY

Who: everyone how loves wet fun in the sun!

Why: because this trip rocks!

How much:

Camping: $30.00

Rafting: $35.00

Tubing:  $5.00 (optional)

Food:  $20.00

T shirts: $15.00 (optional)

The weekend will be packed full of all the fun stuff we did last year with the same schedule:

Friday night: after pitching your tent into “Craigstock” relax around our cozy little bon fire, with the ever increasing circle of friends and enjoy your favorite beverage (BYOB or find a good friend of course!) fire jumping optional. Dinner on Friday night is on your own.

CampP2

Saturday morning: Bring your own breakfast. The optional first bus will leave from the pole barn at 9am and bring us upriver for an hour of tubing at Skinners falls.

The second bus will pick everyone else up at 10am to meet at Skinners falls to get rafts, canoes, and kayaks. If you bring your own boat up, you’ll be able to leave it at the start point, drive back to camp and jump on either bus since the rafting ends at the camp ground later.

The down river float should take about 4 hours or so. Bring lunch, snack, or whatever you need and a favorite beverage (cans are fine, but please do not bring glass containers on the river). You might consider putting everything into a water tight container also.

At the end of the float just before camp, keep and eye on the rocks along the right side of the river, we found a rope swing last year to end the trip with a splash if you didn’t get wet enough through the rest of the day.

Saturday afternoon: Back to camp and BBQ dinner of grilled chicken, burgers, and dogs, water melon and salad (and your favorite beverage, still BYOB) around 5pm.

CampP1

Saturday night: Starting around 7pm the band, Fly by Night, will be back to play the classic rock songs we all grew up with well into the evening, be sure to wear your dancing shoes! And of course we’ll have the bon fire lighting the night to share stories, a favorite beverage and maybe roast a marshmallow from 10 feet away. The fire and food will be right next to the pole barn this year and our tent sites are moved down a little closer also so everything will be more centralized.

Sunday morning: we’ll be putting up a breakfast of eggs, sausage, muffins, and cereals, coffee and tea.

This trip has been growing in everyway every year and is a lot of fun, please send in registration forms as early as possible or at the latest June 15th so that we can set everything  up ahead of time. Also if anyone is interested in helping out along the way, please let us know. Can’t wait to see everyone there!
