NYC Bike Ride

CHANGED TO OCT.5TH DUE TO RAIN!!

We’ll meet at the Weehawken ferry parking lot Saturday morning 9AM. The ride will start here and go up to the GWB via River Road. We’ll cross over the GWB and head down to South Street Seaport along the Hudson River Greenway. We’ll have some lunch & libations at South Street Seaport then had back up the Greenway to the West Mid-town Ferry Terminal on 39th St. From there everyone has a choice to  take the ferry back to Weehawkin, or Hoboken to continue libations or just keep riding back to Weehawkin over the GWB. This is a family friendly ride but there are some sections that are on live streets. Everyone riding should be street wise. Any questions, please give Chuck Emery a call at 973-723-5358 or email emery.chuck@gmail.com

2014 Craigmeur Fall Family
Fun
Saturday, October 11, 2014

Take in the fun on this fall foliage multi-event family friendly day including an easy out and back rail to trail ride. The day will begin at 10:00am for a tour of the Lakota Wolf Preserve located at the Camp Taylor Campground, 89 Mt. Pleasant Rd. Columbia NJ (877)-733-9653 (Rt. 80E, exit 4 Rt. 94N go 2miles, Mt. Pleasant will be on left).  Cost $15 adult and $7 11yrs and under (cash only).  We can only take 15 people so the first 15 to reserve your spot (by calling us) will be allowed.  The tour ends at noon, pack a lunch and snack for later.  Onto our bike ride. From there we head north on Rt. 94 about 1 ½ miles to our starting point of the Paulinskill Valley Trail bike ride. Turn right onto W. Crisman Rd., come to T and make hard right onto Polkville Kill Rd. (kill is Dutch for creek).  Park anywhere under the Viaduct (built by the DLW Railroad in 1910 the world’s largest reinforced concrete structure in its time).  For those meeting us we will leave at 1:00pm sharp so have your bikes and tires filled all ready to go.  We will ride about 10 miles out, taking in the beautiful rural surroundings, vast farmland, lakes w/ white swans and, planes and gliders at the Blairstown Airport.  Then back the same way.  Onto the Brook Hollow Winery.

Back onto Rt. 94S about 2 ½ miles we will enjoy one hour of wine tasting at the Brook Hollow Winery. For those who have been there before and have your glasses the tasting is free, everyone else is $5 so keep your glass and go back anytime for free tastings.  Kids have room to play Frisbee or check their social media updates :o).  The winery intends to have a select Lakota wine available for sale which gives 25% of proceeds back to the Preserve to assist in their efforts.  For those meeting us at the winery, we should be there around 4:15-4:30ish.

Lastly, back out onto Rt. 80E we will be eating dinner at Pub 199 (cash only) , take the Howard Blvd exit and drive a few miles north.  For those just meeting us for dinner we expect to be there around 6:30ish.

** Those who want to follow us, meet your carpool and leave your car, we ask that you arrive at our house by 8:45am sharp.   For more information and to reserve your spot at the Wolf Preserve contact Lee DeSantis @ (201)294-0404 or Abby Cohen @ (973)202-6123.

NJSC Monthly Report

meeting date: September 09, 2014
next meeting: October 13, 2014

Rep: Chris Budd – skijcb (at) hotmail.com

Welcome Back Craigmeur members – veterans and rookies alike.  Let’s hope for another great winter weather season like last year.

Sunday River Maine fired up their new snow guns last week as a test since it was COLD enough to make snow !!  The leaf colors are brilliant, the acorns are falling, autumn has arrived and the countdown begins to the winter solstice.

I am looking for a member or three to apprentice with me as NJSSC rep. Being a NJSSC rep entails attending the NJSSC monthly meeting (2nd Mondays Sept thru May), learning the voucher order / distribution system and posting info about NJSSC events & offers as they become available.  Interested members please contact via email – skijcb (at) hotmail.com.  Thanks !

Guidebook publication will be completed in October and you can get your NJSSC Guidebook copy at the NJSSC Expo (Jamboree), Friday 31 October 2014 at The Hanover Marriott. I will bring copies of the guidebook to regular club meetings beginning in November 2014.

Our club listing page has also been up-dated to reflect the most current contact information. Please take a look and advise if any changes need to be made.

When patronizing retailers / resorts / restuarants in ski country or anywhere else, remember to show your Club membership card with the NJSSC member sticker to inquire about discounts and deals. Also check the new NJSSC web site for additional point of sale discounts under the “Membership Direct” heading.

Points of interest this month:

NJSSC Expo (Jamboree) – Friday 31 October 2014 at the Hanover Marriott, Route 10 East. Exhibits will run from 7pm – 10pm, dance party & social mixer will run from 9pm – closing (midnight-ish). Admission & parking are free. There is an Irish pub on premises to purchase a meal if you are hungry or a beverage if you are thirsty.

NJSSC membership stickers for the 2014-2015 season have been delivered to Craigmeur’s membership chairperson and will be placed on the back of your Craigmeur membership card when you renew your dues. Show this sticker to retailers / resorts / restuarants in ski country or anywhere else you patronize to let them know you are a member of NJSSC and would like to enjoy any discounts they offer to NJSSC members.

TRIPS:

Take quick look at the late summer 2014 NJSSC post and you will find info about three (3) NJSSC sponsored trips for the 2014-2015 season.
