NJSSC Report

meeting date: 08 February 2016
next meeting: 14 March 2016

Rep: Chris Budd – skijcb (at) hotmail.com

This season has been very challenging weather wise for skiers and snowboarders.  Motivation has been missing to get outside and enjoy the activity we love.  While NJ and the mid-Atlantic region has experienced a major absence of winter weather, be reminded our lodge is 250 miles north of NJ and Vermont resorts are still open for your schussing & riding pleasure.  Snow conditions are not as good as last season but fun in the snow can be found if your attitude remains positive.  THINK SNOW !

2016 NJ SPECIAL OLYMPICS – Craigmeur Participants

Posted by skijcb on February 14th, 2016

Kindly shared by Maryanna Mecca via Theresa Ross :

2016 Craigmeur special olympics participants

I always wanted to volunteer at the Special Olympics at Mountain Creek. My Aunt Ilona had done it for years. So did two of Craigmeur Ski Club’s finest: Roy and Eric. This year Theresa and I signed up. It was everything I had expected, and one mystifyingly fantastic thing more. We all share the love of skiing. And some of these athletes are good, really good. I actually considered recruiting a few for the Craigmeur race team. My big WOW was surprisingly not about the the athletes or the volunteers. It was about the behind the scenes instructors who took the time to teach, work with, and train the athletes to move through the gates with so much confidence and grace. Take it from me, skiing is a lifelong learning sport. It does not come overnight. So OK, kudos to the athletes and the volunteers. But double, triple, quadruple kudos to all those very wonderful people wherever you are who took the time to share your love of skiing and your racing knowledge with these Special Olympic athletes. Thanks so much for teaching them something that is so much fun, and in essence, for bringing us all closer together. And finally, thanks so much for giving me the opportunity to share that universal chairlift experience with people I would not have ordinarily met: Chit Chat… “What’s your name, where are you from…and hey isn’t it a beautiful day today.”
