Craigmeur Women win NJSC State Race Sliver Cup!

Posted by Mike Rachmiel on May 14th, 2010

This past February the Craigmeur Women’s race team took first place in the NJSC State race @ Pico, VT. When we had the NJSC award banquet on April 29, I was expecting to receive the usual plaque but too much of my surprise they won the annual sliver cup award. The annual sliver cup award has be given to the 1st place women’s team for the past 50 plus years and this was the first time Craigmeur has ever won the award.

So on May 5th club spring banquet, I presented the women’s race team of Anneliese  Yombor, Dawn Mazzanti, Kim Hollister and Eleanor Young with “the Cup” and display to the membership the unveiling of the ‘Craigmeur Ski Club” name on “the Cup”. The cup will make its rounds to each individual racers home then it will be on displayed in the lodge until next April. So the next time you are at the lodge feel free to pour a beer into “the Cup” and have a victory drink for the women.

Don’t let the motorcycle fool you!  Note the Peddle Bike is on the trailer…

Saturday, June 5, 2010, 9:00am: 6th Annual Craigmeur Ski Club Bike Ride on the Columbia Trail (Rails to Trail). Rain or Shine!  Pedal push off 9:15am Sharp ish

Please join us for a bike ride on this beautiful scenic trail that starts in High Bridge, NJ. The trail is an old railroad path that has been converted into a pedestrian and bike trail. The trail is flat, hard packed fine white gravel and suitable for beginner to advance bike riders. It is recommended that you use a mountain or hybrid bike, although racing bikes can easily navigate the first half of the trail. Friends of Craigmeur Ski Club are welcome to join us. The trail is free! After the trip we will meet at Casa Maya Mexican Resturant in High Bridge for food and refreshments.  It is a BYOB so plan accordingly.

Please click here if you would like to learn more about this easy to bike trail.

Most people will want to do at least 12~14 miles of this round trip since it is the most scenic part of the trail. This part goes from Highbridge to Califon’s Old train station and then back. The more adventurous or advanced riders can do 16 miles round trip. The 16 mile route will be chosen based on weather conditions.

The trail is easy to get to by car. You can get there from Chester via Rt 24 or by Route 80 in the Netcong area. Here are directions.

Columbia Trail driving directions:

  • Take Rt. 80 to 206 South to Rt. 24 (Chester).
  • Turn right onto take Rt. 24 West.
  •  Turn SLIGHT RIGHT onto NJ-24/CR-513/E MILL RD.
  •  Continue to follow CR-513.
  • Turn RIGHT onto CR-513/CHURCH ST.
  • Continue to follow CR-513 to Main Street.
  •  Afterwards, you will make a quick right into the municipal parking lot where we will meet.

Or, if you have a GPS use address 69 Van Sycle Place, High Bridge NJ – it’ll bring you right to the lot.

The Columbia Trail is across the street from the parking lot. The Restaurant is a block away from the parking lot and is an easy walk.

Please give yourself ample driving time to reach High Bridge. From Chester NJ, High Bridge is about a half-hour driving time.

You may contact me via email by clicking here (preferred) or via cell 973-713-9169 if you have any questions.

I plan to be at all of the regular club meetings at The Exchange Restaurant, Rockaway, NJ to answer questions.

Recommend items: Water, Extra clean shirt and a towel to wipe off dust and grime, if any, before entering the restaurant.

The 5 Boro Tour Bike Ride Pictures ARE HERE!

Posted by Diane Bogert on May 2nd, 2010

This was ONE IN A MILLION.  The 30,000 bikers were all gathering at the START of the ride as Craigmeur was headed to another START POINT.  We stopped at a Port-A-John to take a group photo as we had MOST of the 30 riders in our group together and Olivier set our camera on a timer on a bike across the path and there was NOT ONE BIKER for 2-3 minutes until the SECOND the timer took this photo of our group!  Gotta love it!

We did tailgate at the end of the ride with a little “change up” on grilling and location.  All in all, a beautiful day to ride and we still stuck together through all the flaws!   (Thank you Maryanne for joining the group with more food and kids to join our fun at the tailgate!)

Thank you Lee and Larry and Diane for your photos to remember our great feat of the 42 miles “plus” that we accomplished on this day!  Good Memories!

What a beautiful day for a good bike ride with good people!  Linda Freedman met us at the festival to join some for lunch and we all met at the beer garden before the ride back to our cars.  Thanks Olivier for putting this together last minute as we all enjoyed the ride, time together and the festival!
