Craigmeur Ski Club

30 Aug

Just look at this beautiful place!!  The hike will be on September 25, 2016 at High Point State Park located on Route 23 in Sussex, New Jersey, organized by Patty and Rob Rossi.  We will meet at 10:00 a.m. at The Interpretive Center Parking lot (when you first enter the park).  Do not go down to the Center.  The trail is the Monument and is approximately 3.7 miles.  Wear hiking boots if it’s wet and bring walking sticks if you want.  Bring water and pack a lunch for after the hike.  There is a picnic area with grills we can use!

Elias Cole Restaurant is a great place to have breakfast before the hike or lunch after the hike. It’s inexpensive and everything is homemade!!

Burlington VT bike ride

19 Aug

chucks vt ride picture cropped

September 17 & 18 2016

Saturday’s ride is a flat, casual, scenic ride along Lake Champlain. Great views and a lot of fun! Mt. Bikes or Hybrids will work. We’ll leave the Lodge Saturday @ 9AM to meet approximately 10:30AM at the Oakledge Park trailhead – 2 Flynn Ave. Burlington. Depending on conditions and time, we may take the $8 bike ferry over to South Hero. Great waterfront park to have a picnic lunch. Total ride will be about 25-30 miles. At a casual pace, totally doable.

We’ll have a trailer with coolers for BYO grub and “refreshments”. Some folks have gotten pretty creative with lunch fixings. The ride will take at least a half day. After the ride, we can check out what’s happening in Burlington. Last year we went to Folino’s Pizza/Fiddlehead Brewery which worked out great.

For those needing bikes, there’s a rental outfit called Local Motion right on the bike trail for Saturday’s ride. For full details on the trail and bike rentals, visit

For those interested in trying some medium duty (think Blues/Double Blues) Mt. Biking, Sunday morning’s ride is a beginner/intermediate ride at Pine Hill which is a few minutes from the Lodge. We’ll start that ride @ 10am and go for a couple hours. There will be a fair number of hills but not super technical. It’s fun for all.

Both rides are family friendly. Sunday’s ride, however, will be more strenuous and a Mt. Bike will be needed for sure. Helmets and water are needed for both rides.

The lodge will be available starting 7PM Friday @ $15 for members & $30 for guests for the weekend. Kids 12 & under are $9 for the weekend. We’re on our own for all meals. Email for reservations.

To sign up and any questions, please contact Chuck Emery – or 973-723-5358.

C’ya at the Lodge!!

Guest Speaker, August 17, 2016

09 Aug

The guest speaker series continues!

I am happy to present Justin Bailey from the Appalachian Mountain Club as our guest speaker for August 17, 2016.

The Appalachian Mountain Club, formed 140 years ago, is a club made up of folks very much like our very own Craigmeur Ski Club. Our like interests encompass everything outdoors. They have chapters throughout the northeastern area of the United States and engage in a wide range of outdoor activities such as hiking, paddling, skiing, snowshoeing, and biking. They do a large range of outdoor conservation projects as well including trail maintenance on many of the hiking trails many of us have enjoyed hiking on. They also have a fantastic network of huts and lodges throughout the New England, available to members with various levels comforts for extended visits to our precious wilderness areas.

I really think this will be a fabulous opportunity for us to introduce our clubs to each other. Please plan to join us on this regular meeting night for an extraordinary treat.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there!
