ski / snowboard tuning demo

15 Nov

Ever wonder what’s behind that ski and snowboard tune ups we all make sure to do once or twice a year? Ever wonder if it was something you could do at home, or at the lodge in our boot room?

Well now is your chance to find out a little bit about it. Tony Rinaldi is going to be our guest speaker this week to break it down and give us a demonstration. He’s been involved in the ski industry about as long as I have and among other things, oversees the rental shop at Campgaw. Some of you may remember him from our camping / rafting weekends. This should prove to be an interesting and informative night.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

Star Gazing follow up

13 Nov

Star Gazing At Sheep Hill Astronomical Association 11/4/16

Thanks Dwight for putting this together – what a nice way to spend a Friday evening!  For about 2 hours – we had our own personal astronomy class.  Sky was clear, company was great, and conversation was interesting and fun.  Mike, Nick, and Surge did a great job manning the 18 inch, f/4.5 Newtonian Reflecting Telescope which sits on the 2nd floor of the observatory underneath a 16 foot steel dome.  The telescope is mounted on an equatorial fork mount with a sidereal-rate tracking motor (no – I did not remember all that – it is all on their site which I encourage all to take a look at to learn more:  In layman’s terms:  they were able to find some really cool things to look at:

  • Moon:  very bright and it was neat seeing the craters.
  • Mars
  • Double Star Alberio:  Was very pretty!  One was blue, the other white.   Looked like it should be on a Christmas card!
  • Planetary Nebula Star M57:  AKA a ring nebula.  Sort of looked like a jellyfish, but really looked like what it was – a dying star.
  • The Dumbbell M27:  Looked like a dumbbell, and also like a cobweb.

FYI:  what is visible to the human eye is given a name , everything else has a number assigned.

For those unable to attend and are interested  in astronomy, the observatory is open to the public on the 3rd Friday evening of each month at 8:30 weather permitting, and also during special events (meteor showers, etc.).

Fall foliage bike ride follow up

08 Nov

What a perfect day for a bike ride and a perfect group to do it with! About a dozen of us headed out on a brisk sunny morning from Washington Crossing, NJ. Enjoying fabulous fall foliage all along the way heading north on a nice level crushed gravel bike path along the Delaware River canal. Riding 11 miles to Stockton where we crossed the river to the PA side and then 4 miles down to New Hope, PA for lunch. Outside seating at Bitter Bobs (a nice little byob right on main street), great food, colorful conversation, and lots of laughs. Feeling good as we rode the final 7 miles back to the parking lot where we kept the fun going for a little while longer. Thank you everyone that came out for our fourth annual fall bike ride.
